The Ohlone Greenway is a bike+walking trail that connects Berkeley, Albany, El Cerrito, and Richmond in California’s San Francisco Bay Area. It provides access to parks, transit stations, schools, libraries, business districts, and residential neighborhoods.
During our years in Berkeley, my family enjoyed many walks and bike rides on the Ohlone Greenway. Many times, biking along the greenway from Berkeley to Albany proved to be faster than driving the same distance, thanks to the absence of vehicle traffic. So, when I had IT consulting work to do in Albany, I almost always biked from Berkeley along the greenway rather than drive. Economic efficiency, better health, and personal happiness all rolled into one.
One of our most memorable uses of the greenway was in the winter of 2015, when my kids and I picked up our Christmas tree from locally-owned Flowerland Nursery, via a custom tree-e-bike. Along the way, we stopped to appreciate an amazing mural on the BART light trail tracks.
